The Yucatán Peninsula is one of Mexico's most unique regions — a flat limestone shelf surrounded by the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico, where ancient Maya civilization thrived for thousands of years. Unlike the resort-heavy Riviera Maya, the Yucatán's northern Gulf coast remains largely undiscovered by international tourism, offering authentic Mexican beach life at a fraction of the cost.
Telchac Puerto is a quiet fishing village on this unspoiled coast, about one hour north of the colonial capital Mérida. Here the sea is shallow and warm, the sunsets paint the sky every evening, and the pace of life slows to the rhythm of the waves. Flamingos feed in the nearby pink lagoons, sea turtles nest on the beaches, and the ocean glows with bioluminescence on summer nights.
The Yucatán is famous for its cenotes — thousands of natural sinkholes filled with crystal-clear freshwater, formed when the limestone bedrock collapsed into underground rivers. Some are open to the sky, others are hidden in caves with light streaming through crevices. Swimming in a cenote is one of the most unforgettable experiences in Mexico.
The region is also a living museum of Maya heritage. World-famous sites like Chichén Itzá and Uxmal are within day-trip distance, but smaller gems like Xcambó — the only coastal Maya ruins in Yucatán, just 10 minutes from Casa Hokol — let you explore ancient pyramids without the crowds. Add in the legendary Yucatecan cuisine (cochinita pibil, salbutes, papadzules, poc chuc), the warm hospitality, and some of the lowest costs of living in North America, and you'll understand why so many visitors come to Yucatán and never want to leave.

Hi, we're Jan & Daša — originally from the Czech Republic. The house was built in 1997, and we bought it in 2018, falling in love with the Yucatán coast. We moved here for the clean sea air and allergy-free environment, and we've experienced firsthand how daily sea swimming and the coastal climate improve well-being. Whether we're here ourselves or our carefully chosen local team is hosting, we make sure your stay feels like home.
